Psychiatry is punitive - wherever you find it!

I've become embroiled in a discussion about how psychiatry is being utilized within the prison system as an additional means of punishment under the guise of 'penal reform'. No doubt psychiatry is inherently punitive when it functions in this capacity as partner to the judicial apparatus. But this is to say nothing of those innocents who find themselves incarcerated and punished in psychiatric prisons (euphemistically referred to as 'hospitals') without even having broken any laws. (This actually means the vast majority of psychiatric 'patients'.)

An EcoPsych Mashup

Obviously I'm not the first to feel that much of the rest of the world is crazy for calling me crazy... That I'm disabled by others' assumptions about reality... that the entire world is being categorized and commodified and homogenized and sterilized via some bizarre eugenic compulsion. I've seen some great posts here touching on things like shamanism and permaculture as a sort of radical and horizontal eco-psycho-social therapy... as a way we can sort of begin to put our lives in order with 'nature'... and I wanted to contribute to that with this short ecopsychology primer from Theodore Roszak. (Along with a few choice quotes from my ever-growing list.)

I don't want to be an old-fashioned queer.

It's been so nice to see everyone's responses to the last blog post and forum post I put up, the one about gender and sex. It's funny -- I'm realizing now that part of why my art and my writing dried up for a while is because some part of me was trying very hard not to feel, and if I was not feeling, then there could be no honest bubbling up in the way that spills into art and words. And so there wasn't.

A lot has been erupting out of me lately about gender and sex and control and fear. I got an e-mail today that triggered all kinds of old heartache and sinking stones in the stomach, and ended up writing a bunch of things down... this is an excerpt:
