My Risperidone Reduction Journey

My Risperidone Reduction Journey

Postby yellowrose » Jan 27, 2014 3:24 pm

I have been on Risperdal 4mg for 6 or so years. Mentally I don't feel too bad but the side effects, such as weight gain, TD and sedation are really onerous.

I recently tried cutting a tiny corner off my pills with a pill cutter. After about 2 weeks my mood started getting quite erratic. It was like my normal moods but like an extra turbo charge of energy. I had some moments of feeling ultra chilled but others of intense paranoia, anxiety and depression. To be fair it was probably manageable but I just didn't feel strong enough to ride it.

I really feel I need to address the harm caused by the Risperidone and this means getting onto a reduced dose. Since the pill cutting my psychiatrist has offered to prescribe me 3.75mg doses (which I think is better as the dose is more constant).

I think I need to put more support in place to help me through the transition but I really don't know what to expect.

I have also created a 'mad map' outlining all the things that support my well being.
