How To Get Involved
Submitted by admin on Sun, 08/20/2006 - 11:20am.We're inviting your involvement!
The Icarus Project is a labor of love that exists through the efforts of an unruly mob of contributors: organizers, activists, artists, writers, musicians, students, tech geeks, interns and volunteers, all somehow held together by a small team of 4 less-than-half-time paid staff, and loosely centered in a donated New York City office.
Keep in mind that we're all about d.i.y autonomy and initiative - if you're inspired, then feel free to join. Here's how you can play a part in this mad circus:
Check out our Discussion Forums and join the conversations about everything from meds to shamanism to poetry. Or start a blog!
Find people in your area in our Radical Mental Health Contacts list located on the sidebar on the right, as well as by joining our discussion forum. You can join an existing group, start a new one (our Support Group Manual can help), or sign up to be a local area contact to find people in your area. Local groups are doing everything from tabling at music shows, hosting public events, gathering regularly for discussion and support, organizing workshops, publishing zine anthologies, and more.
Spread the word by ordering and distributing our publications and materials, and downloading fliers and graphics, which you can find in our Materials section.
Make a tax-deductable contribution. We're an entirely non-commercial venture, free of advertising or pharmaceutical funding. We need your donations! You can make a donation online or by phoning our fiscal sponsor, at 1-888-GIVE-FJC.
Getting Involved with our national organizing collective: The Icarus project staff works closely with volunteers, interns, and organizers from around the country and world, who all have a hand in creating the project. We have monthly organizing conference calls open to activists involved with organizing Icarus on a local or national level. Check out the Icarus Project - (Inter)national Organizing and Local Meetups and Community Organizing forums.
The Icarus Project strives to be 100% transparent in everything we do. Check out our organizational planning website on Open Plans. It's loaded with documents and details about what we're up to, including how to read the archives of our organizational emails and how to subscribe to the icarus-organizers email list for organizers.
Dream up your own way of collaborating! Suprise us with your own Icarus-inspired collaborations -- and we'd love to hear what you're up to.
